Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex


Sliding on the back
1. Lay on your back on the ground, with your legs bent comfortably. Lay your arms by your side.
2. Using your feet, pushing yourself horizontally and rhythmically.
You may need help from someone getting started.
Do this exercise for up to 2 minutes.

Note: This exercise gives a sense of balance and calming sensation as it activates the brain and reduces hyperactivity and improves attention.

Thumping head into pillow

Do not do this with people with Down Syndrome. 

1. Lay down on the ground facing up, with at least two pillows and on a soft surface.
2. You should then thump your head backwards into the pillows.
3. Movements can be small or large.

Supine cycling
1. Laying down on the ground, facing up. Raise your legs into the air and begin a cycling motion.
2. This motion should be done slowly.
3. You can put your hands under your buttocks or back if the movements cause pain in the back.

Somersault Rolling

Do not do this with people with Down Syndrome. 

1. Kneeling on the ground on your hands and knees, with straight or slightly bent arms.
2. Put your forehead on the floor or a sift pillow between the hands.
3. Put your weight onto the hands and forearms and not the neck.
4. Begin rolling your head back and forth from forehead to the top of your head.
