Symmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex


Cat Arches
1. Kneel on the ground on your hands and knees. Your arms should be out straight and knees together.
2. Push your stomach and back up to sky slowly, curling your head in towards your chest.
3. Go as far up as it is comfortable.
4. Then come back down the relax, pushing your stomach and back as far to the ground as comfortable, lift your head up straight with the motion.
5. Make sure your palms are flat, fingers relaxed, and hands are pointed forward.
6. Your feet should be flat on the floor.
7. Get someone to look at your movement and let them correct your movement if needed.
Do this 5-6 times

Rocking body hands and Feet
1. Lay down on the ground, facing down.
2. Your hands should be level with the head and elbows away from the body.
3. Your palms should be flat on the floor with fingers and palms stretched out.
4. Raise your head with your chin close to the chest and head inline with your spine.
5. Bring your feet up to 90 degrees and toes tucked under.
6. Begin rocking rhythmically in a horizontal direction (head to toe).
Do this exercise for up to 2 minutes

Rocking on hands and knees – back + forward
1. Client sits on the ground and onto their heels, stretching their arms forwards.
2. The rock your body forward until the head is above their hands and their body is raised up.
3. The begin rocking backwards onto the heels and then bounces forward again.
4. Make sure your palms and fingers are stretched and pressed into the floor.
5. Ensure the spine isn’t arched and the ankles and feet stay touching the ground.

Do this for 2 minutes. 

Somersault Rolling

Do not do this with people with Down Syndrome. 

1. Kneeling on the ground on your hands and knees, with straight or slightly bent arms.
2. Put your forehead on the floor or a sift pillow between the hands.
3. Put your weight onto the hands and forearms and not the neck.
4. Begin rolling your head back and forth from forehead to the top of your head.

Do this for 2 minutes.
